Yoshinkan Aikido is the style of Aikido taught by Gozo Shioda, an outstanding student of aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba. Shioda taught the spiritual and practical applications of Aikido to thousands of people in his lifetime.
The principles of Aikido as Gozo Shioda said: "As you get older, your muscles weaken, and you can no longer lift and pull. Unlimited strength comes from breath power. If the other person comes powerfully against you, and you respond by simply taking his power into yourself, There is no need for any effort".
Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) known as O'Sensei (the great teacher) founded and practice Aikido until he died at the age of 86. He devoted himself to hard physical conditioning and to practice martial arts, and mastered several styles of Jujitsu, fencing and spear
fighting. In spite of his impressive physical and martial arts skills, he felt very dissatisfied. He combined his martial arts training with his religious ideologies, and created the modern martial art of Aikido.
Aikido "the art of self defense" is rooted in several styles of Jujitsu in particular Daitoryu Jujitsu as well as spear fighting arts. Aikido takes the joint locks and throws from Jujitsu and combines them with the body movements of sword and spear fighting.
